Arun Jaitley says modification to anti-graft law, to protect honest bureaucrats
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that an erroneous commercial decision of a public servant cannot always be seen as corrupt. He said that the amendments to the anti-graft law would protect the honest bureaucrats. He said the amendments to the anti-graft law have been brought to Parliament and the select committee has suggested some marginal changes in its report

Wastage of food is unfortunate: PM on 'Mann Ki Baat'
Addressing the 30th edition of his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi said that "wastage of food is unfortunate" and "several youngsters are using technology to prevent it". Further speaking on Swachh Bharat, Modi said, "People of India are getting angry as far as dirt is concerned and this is a welcome sign."
Centre chalks out new roadmap to seal International Borders with Bangladesh & Pakistan: Rajnath Singh
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said that the Centre has chalked out a new roadmap to strengthen the border security and plans to seal the International Borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan. He said this while addressing the Passing Out Parade of the BSF assistant commandants at the BSF Academy in Tekanpur of Madhya Pradesh. Home Minister said four pilot projects have been approved to check infiltration through technical assistance. Mr Singh also warned Pakistan against any attempts to breach ceasefire.

Four holy cities to get 24-hour power supply in UP
Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi and Gorakhpur, four holy cities for Hindus, will get 24-hour power supply, Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Shrikant Sharma said on Saturday. He said, "round the clock power would be ensured in order to facilitate scores of pilgrims coming to these districts." Sharma added that his department was committed to providing 24-hour power supply to UP by 2019.

EC orders transfer of Chennai Police Commissioner:
The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of Chennai Police Commissioner S George following a complaint by DMK, ahead of the RK Nagar Assembly bypoll in Tamil Nadu. The transfer order was issued last night. Sources in the poll panel said Karan Singh has been appointed as the new city police chief.

Height of Shivaji Memorial to be raised from 192 metres to 210 metres
The height of the ambitious Shivaji memorial off Mumbai coast will be raised from 192 metres to 210 metres. Vinayak Mete, chairman of the Shivaji memorial committee formed by the government, said that a revised proposal will be sent to the Centre for environmental clearances for increased height of the Shivaji Maharaj's statue. According to a source in the memorial committee, the decision to seek increase in the height was taken so that the structure could be taller than a 208 metre Buddha statue coming up in China's Henan province.

Supreme Court to go paperless in 6 months: CJI
Chief Justice JS Khehar has said the Supreme Court will go paperless in six to seven months in a bid to save funds and make the judiciary eco-friendly. He further said the apex court will collect all the records electronically from the lower courts and the high courts so that there is no need to file hard copies.

Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D Anbu has reviewed the overall security situation in the Kashmir Valley today. Accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen J S Sandhu, the Army Commander visited the Line of Control formations and units where he was briefed by commanders about the operational preparedness. Thousands march in London to protest against Brexit
Thousands of people on Saturday took to the streets in London to protest against the UK's decision to leave the European Union. Demanding continuation of benefits of remaining in the EU, the protesters said that they were the 48% who voted to remain in the EU during the 2016 referendum. The Brexit process is to be initiated on March 29.
Egypt ex-President freed from jail after 6 years
Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak has been released from detention in a military hospital, six years after he was overthrown. Mubarak was sentenced to life in 2012 for inciting the deaths of at least 850 protesters during the 18-day revolt in 2011 that ousted him. However the country's highest appeals court acquitted him of the charge.

Union against keeping banks open on all days till April 1
The All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC) is protesting against RBI's decision to keep banks open on all holidays till April 1 to facilitate tax collection. "There are four working days between March 25-31, which is more than enough," the union said. It further stated the bank employees won't be able to celebrate Navaratri, Ugadi, Gudi Padwa and other festivals
New rules under the Finance Bill
The Finance Bill 2017, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha, comes with a number of amendments, including imposing a limit of ₹2 lakh on cash transactions. The Bill also makes Aadhaar mandatory for filing Income Tax returns and for getting a PAN. Further, the Bill enables Income Tax officers to raid homes without providing any reason

Oil prices edge up amid fall in Saudi exports to US
Global crude oil prices edged up, today, supported by a fall in Saudi exports to the United States. But overall markets remained under pressure on the back of a world market flooded with fuel. Brent crude oil futures rose 13 cents, to 50.69 dollars a barrel. U.S. crude rose 18 cents, to 47.88 dollars a barrel. In the US, overseas oil suppliers like Saudi Arabia have to compete against rising shale drilling, which has pushed up U.S. oil production by more than 8 percent since mid-2016.

FPI inflows hit 6 billion US dollars in March on hopes of more reforms
The inflows follow a net investment of 15,862 crore rupees in equity and debt last month. According to depository data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) infused a net sum of 22,268 crore rupees in equities during March 1-24 and another 16,177 crore rupees in the debt segment, translating into a combined inflow of 38,445 crore rupees. So far this year, FPIs have invested 30,994 crore rupees in equities and 19,818 crore rupees in debt, taking the total inflow to 50,811 crore rupees
Repair rural household economy to sustain growth: SBI chief
SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya told at a CII event that banks are facing two challenges-growth capital and asset quality concerns. The asset quality concerns are due to lack of demand and loans given during the boom years and both don’t seem to be improving in the medium term. Therefore, there is a need to focus on farm sector growth. On overall credit growth, which averaged at a multi- decadal low of 5 percent so far, the SBI chief said she does not see a revival in the near-term.

Resolution being worked out with RBI to put enough pressure on borrowers to settle dues: Jaitley
Promising a solution to the growing Non Performing Assets problem in the next few days, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said, the resolution, being worked out with the RBI, will put enough pressure on borrowers to settle dues. Speaking at a function in New Delhi, he said, the problem of big NPA is confined essentially to 30-40 companies and accounts of these will have to be fixed to solve the issue.

T20 cricket for physically challenged from March 30
The 7th National Inter Zonal T20 cricket tournament for the differently-abled is to be held in Mumbai from March 30 to April 1. It was announced at a media conference in Mumbai today that five regions of the country - North , East, South, Central and West zone- are the teams set to participate in the three-day event. It was announced that the tournament would be held under the International Cricket Council's T20 cricket tournament format, with a few relaxations to accommodate cricket for the differently-abled.
U-17 World Cup: FIFA lauds Navi Mumbai venue
A FIFA delegation today expressed happiness at the preparedness of the facilities at D Y Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai for the Under-17 Football World Cup. It said, the stadium should be treated as benchmark for other venues in the country. After inspecting the D Y Patil Stadium, the delegation led by FIFA Head of Events Jamie Yarza today said, it is a fantastic stadium and and all the logistical organisational aspects of the World Cup have been completed. Javier Ceppi, Tournament Director of the LOC FIFA U-17 World Cup, informed that the Prime Minister's Office was watching the preparations for the event. The FIFA delegation will now head for Guwahati and Kolkata.
