Air India Co-Pilot Abuses, Beats Up The Captain During A Flight

April 6, 2015

There was major drama in Air India's flight AI 611 on Sunday between the flight's captain and co-pilot. According to a report in Times of India, passengers traveling on the flight witnessed some fist-fight between the two employees.

"The commander told his co-pilot to take down critical take off figures for the flight. This involves writing critical facts like number of passengers on board, take-off weight and fuel uptake on a small card (trim sheet) that is displayed in front of the pilots for the entire duration of the flight. The co-pilot took offense at this and reportedly beat up the captain," a source told ToI.

Apparently, the co-pilot in question had faced similar charges a few years ago as well. "Three years ago, the co-pilot had asked the commander of a flight to come out of the cockpit, remove the stars on his shirt collar (appulates) and then fought with him. A year later, another commander complained about his 'rude and unbecoming' behavior in the cockpit and questioned his state of mind," a senior commander told ToI.

Last month, a Germanwings Flight 9525 crashed and killed 150 people when it crashed in the French Alps. Investigators believe that the 27-year-old co-pilot Andreas Lubitz was of unsound mind and may have deliberately crashed the flight.

An Air India spokesman told ToI, "The two had an argument. They have settled the issue."
